TOM SHEDDEN

  • Dover Road 186A Dover Road Folkestone, England, CT20 1NX United Kingdom (map)

Join us at Dover Road for an exhibition of new works by artist Tom Shedden. Large scale paintings never exhibited before, this show will be a chance to view a new and exciting body of work.

As well as being informed by the playful artifice of theatre design and the visual symbolism of classical sculpture and landscapes, Shedden’s keen interest in folk art and the freedoms of the naive are clearly visible in his work. A self-taught painter, working intuitively and often from memory, his paintings are a process of personal discovery, a dream-like poetic exchange between recollection and the metaphorical.

“A friend once described changing direction in one’s practice to be like turning a tanker at sea. The works shown in this exhibition are the present culmination of that mile long turn. The movement from wax crayon geometrical works to these figurative ones has been a three year process with this series of paintings beginning in November 2024.”

Tom Shedden (b 1975) is a London-born artist based in Folkestone, Kent. Originally studying Illustration, he graduated with Hons in 1997 from Central Saint Martins. His work has been exhibited widely by many galleries across the UK including Saatchii Gallery, Turner Contemporary and James Freeman Gallery.
